AHS's 2024 Scholarship Recipient
Last year, AHS awarded its scholarship to Mark Genest, an incoming UNH freshman, College of Engineering Physical Sciences, majoring in Mechanical Engineering.
The Atkinson Historical Society frequently receives inquiries regarding the history and significance of Atkinson homes, buildings, local families, notable individuals, and events. When submitting a research request, please note that your inquiry will be reviewed by a dedicated team of volunteers. A few of the volunteers are professional genealogists and researchers, most have expertise in navigating the Society's collection of archived paper resources, and some draw upon their personal knowledge and memories of Atkinson to provide a thorough and thoughtful response.
Welcome to the Atkinson Historical Society and Kimball House Museum, where we are dedicated to preserving the rich history of our town and sharing it with the community.
Here's what we do:
Archival Work: We collect and safeguard various articles, documents, and artifacts related to the town of Atkinson. Our archives include one of the largest scrapbook collections in the region, capturing decades of local memories.
Research Services: We assist the public with research requests, covering topics such as Atkinson's historic homes, buildings, events, and families. Our team also welcomes out-of-town visitors seeking to explore their connections to Atkinson.
Cataloging the Museum Collection: Our museum features an extensive and growing collection of items. We work diligently to digitize and catalog these treasures to ensure their accessibility and preservation for future generations.
Community Engagement: We are proud to host and network with local organizations, including Atkinson Academy classes and teachers and the Women's Civic Club, fostering a sense of connection and learning within the community. AHS awards an annual scholarship each May to a high school senior residing in Atkinson. We participate in townwide events year-round. Moreover, AHS sponsors two New Hampshire Humanities lectures annually.
Maintaining the Museum: In collaboration with the town, we contribute to both the interior and exterior upkeep of the museum, ensuring a welcoming and well-preserved space for visitors.
Preservation Efforts: We advocate for restoration and repair projects to safeguard the museum's historical integrity, working closely with town leadership to keep its legacy alive.
