Front Hallway
Photos and biographies of each of the Kimball House homeowners and spouses (circa 1772 - 1907) grace this beautiful Victorian-era front hallway.
Meeting Room
A colorful wall mural in one corner of the meeting room still evokes fond memories for many visitors, bringing them back to when the room was the town’s children’s library. Today, the meeting room hosts displays of the Center School, Atkinson Academy, Atkinson’s cottage industries, Atkinson Fire Department, Atkinson Police Department, the Garden Club, and much more.
Parlor
The parlor was the initial meeting room for the Atkinson Historical Society beginning in 1958. Iconic to the room is the bass viola played by Reverend Stephen Peabody (1741-1819). On display also are Peabody family portraits, fine china, and a pictorial display of some of Atkinson’s oldest homes. The newest addition is our “Women of Atkinson” display, an ongoing project to bring the stories of yesteryear’s women of Atkinson to light.
Kitchen
The centerpiece of the kitchen is a woodburning stove, an instant reminder of how different life was before electricity. Many curious culinary gadgets from the 19th and early 20th centuries round out the kitchen collection.
Military Room
The military room is the most reverent room in the Kimball House Museum, paying homage to the men and women of Atkinson who selflessly served their country with honor. The collection of military artifacts ranges from the Revolutionary War through Afghanistan.
Horton Room
The Horton Room is styled as a late 19th century bedroom, its armoire featuring period clothing. The collection also includes a cradle and delicately embroidered baby clothes.
Grange Room
Following the demolition of the Grange, Patrons of Husbandry 143 (1889-1986), artifacts and photos were entrusted to the Atkinson Historical Society. Today, the Grange Room collection is the town’s last link to this historic fraternal organization that was an integral part of the community.

Louise Noyes Barnum Research Room
The Louise Noyes Barnum Research Room is the heart of the Kimball House Museum, its shelves rich with books, genealogies, photos, and more.
Access to the research room is by appointment only; and visitors are accompanied by an AHS member.
Barn
The barn holds a fascinating collection of old-time tools of all sorts, as well as some local signage. And one last “must-see” is an old-fashioned outhouse, tucked away in a corner of the barn!
