Atkinson Historical Society Grants

The Atkinson Historical Society is very thankful for all of the grants and local contributions from local individuals and organizations.

 

 

Moose Plate Grant

In 2014 the Atkinson Historical Society organized a grant to preserve historical tax booklets from the early 1800s. The grant was officially made to the Town of Atkinson as a town entitiy was needed to complete the grant award. 18 tax booklets, that were in failing condition, were restored into a condition that the public would be able to access the booklets. The booklets were digitized with microfilm copies being provied to the New Hampshire State Library and New Hampshire State Archives.

Atkinson Women's Civic Club Grant

In 2014 the Atkinson Historical Society recieved a grant from the Atkinson Women's Civic Club to purchase equipment to help digitize the collection. This equipment is available for loan to local organizations who would like to digitize some of their records. Contact the Atkinson Historical Society for additional information.

Upcoming Events The Atkinson Historical Society has an active events team. Our goal is to bring quality and interesting events into Atkinson to inform the public about a current topic of interest or historical topics of all kinds. This link will take you to our events page. Currently we are actively planning events to celebrate the Atkinson 250th anniversary in 2017.

Atkinson History Atkinson has a rich history dating back to before the American Revolution. The town was part of a tract of land purchased from the indians by settlers of Haverhall, MA on November 15, 1642. The first settlements were made in 1728 by Benjamin Richards of Rochester and Jonathan and Edmund Page and John Dow of Harerhill. Click here for more details on the history of Atkinson..

Kimball Museum The Atkinson Historical Society makes it's home in the Atkinson Kimball Museum. Formerly the Atkinson public library. The museum is open every Wednesday from 2 - 4 pm and the 1st Saturday of each month from 10am - 2pm. Here is a more detailed listing of museum hours..
