Atkinson Historical Society Events

The Atkinson Historical Society will bring quality programs into Atkinson. Many of these programs are in conjunction with the NH Humanities.

The Atkinson Historical Society will also participate in 2 or 3 other events per year such as a Kimball House open house the Labor Day Antique Car and Truck show (now hosted by the Atkinson Lions and Atkinson Firefighters Association) and the holiday tree lighting at the Atkinson Country Club.

On of our new favorites is the annual cemetery scavenger hunt where we challenge both young and old to find certain grave markers and symbols while learing more about the town.

2017 Schedule of Events

New England Lighthouses and the People Who Kept Them - Presented by Jeremy D'Entremont
Thursday May 11, 2017 - 6:30pm Kimball Public Library
Everyone knows that there's "something about lighthouses" that gives them broad appeal, but their vital role in our history and culture is little appreciated. Our early nation was built on maritime economy, and lighthouses were part of the system that made that possible. Due to automation, traditional lighthouse keeping is a way of life that has faded into the past. Jeremy D'Entremont tells the history of New England's historic and picturesque lighthouses primarily focusing on the colorful and dramatic stories of lighthouse keepers and their families.

A Visit with Abraham Lincoln - Presented by Steve Wood -
Thursday October 12, 2017 - 6:30pm Kimball Public Library

Abraham Lincoln, portrayed by Steve Wood, begins this program by recounting his early life and ends with a reading of the "Gettysburg Address." Along the way he comments on the debates with Stephen Douglas, his run for the presidency, and the Civil War.
